Disneyland Fireworks

Saturday, December 16th, 2006

I have been to Disneyland a few times when I was a kid (well.. once I was 17… still a kid! ha!) but I never got to see the fireworks. That’s probably mostly due to my father never wanting to stick around till that late. In any case, here are a few pics of the fireworks from the Hong Kong Disneyland.

Notables of 2006

Wednesday, December 13th, 2006

It’s quite late but I want to at least get started on this post before I go to bed……

Notables of 2006

At this time of year, there are always loads of “Best of this year” everywhere. From music to tech gadgets to person to ideas (from NYTimes Magazine, the link is probably only going to work until next issue); nevertheless, I don’t think I have ever done it. So here it is, as suggest by my brothers, my Notables of 2006:

(the lists are un-ordered)

Music

  • Cat Power – The Greatest
    • such an incredibly aged voice and soulful performances by a young 30-something
  • Monster Movie – All Lost
    • Another Slowdive-descendant
  • Madeleine Peyroux – Half the Perfect World
    • a pretty good album filled with mostly covers of classic jazz/folk songs
  • The Roots – Game Theory
    • Return of the roots? I was fairly disappointed with their last album but this was fairly refreshing
  • Those I first listened to in 2006
    • L’Altra – In the Afternoon
      • I just can’t stop listening to this album!
    • Johnny Cash – a lot but namely live At Folsom Prison
    • Cat Power – Moon Pix
    • Stellastar – Harmonies of the haunted
    • Sufjan Stevens
      • If i had listened to this in 2005, this would surely have made my “2005 Notables” list.

Films

  • The Prestige
  • Volver
  • Devil Wears Prada
    • Storyline and film itself are not packed with much but Meryl Streep’s much understated performance is enough for this to be a notable
  • Cars
    • Not as innovative as Finding Nemo but still enjoyable
  • Those I saw in 2006
    • Matchpoint – Woody Allen
    • Crash
    • Breaking Waves – lars von trier
    • 40 year old Virgin- If there ever was any comedic must-see, this must be one of them!
    • Junebug
    • Brokeback Mountain – ang lee
    • Walk the line
    • Constant Gardener
    • 2046 – wong kar wai
    • Buffalo 66
    • Big Fish
    • Finding Neverland
    • Sideways – a film full of humanity
    • Seducing Doctor Lewis – the other comedic must-see!!!! must must must! (Official French-Canadian title is The Grand Seduction, I believe)
    • Shaun of the Dead – comedic must-see #3!! Never has being chased by the undead been so satirical and relentlessly humorous!

Events? Book? Gadget? Ideas? People? Cities? Places? Food? Experiences?

tooooooooooo be continued and revised….

arttikgallerypreview.jpg

Well here it is! The Arttik Gallery is now live. Granted there’s not much there at the moment besides an album of pictures of the Sigur Ros show I have never gotten around to posting. But rest assured I will continue to add photos to the Gallery. [Edit: I have now uploaded some food pics as well as from my trip to Japan]

You can now leave comment on each individual photograph! All you have to do is click on the little drop down menu that says “item actions” and voila! Do do do do do do leave me a message and not be shy when there’s an image you particularly (or dislike!). I don’t really get feedback often to my work and I’d definitely appreciate it in whatever shape or form. :)

Besides all the photographs/ other artwork from my old website, here’s a list of things I will add to the gallery in near future:

All the decent quality pictures from

  • Europe this past summer (Hamburg, Cologne, Heidelberg, Black Forrest, Dresden, Prague, London, Paris, and Berlin)
  • Kyoto/Osaka, Japan
  • Boston / New York
  • Hawaii
  • Everyday life in HK
  • My other home, the fair city of Seattle
  • Of friends and family
  • all my experiments in the kitchen!

That’s about all I can think of right now. That’s quite a backlog of pictures I haven’t posted tho! Also, please don’t hesitate to let me know what you think of the new gallery.

Arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrtttttttttttttttt outttttttt

crap how did it get to 5 am so fast……

Quick update

Thursday, December 7th, 2006

Just a quick FYI that I have been working on the gallery section. I found some nice theme (designs other people made) upon which I will modify and personalize it. I really can’t hold off putting all the pictures up any longer. I have tons and tons of new pictures I need to post (mostly my travel pics and others like the Sigur Ros show). So keep checking this blog, hopefully I will get something up soon! ;-)
